Since 1994, the Wilderness Society has been promoting a love of nature in kids through the Environment Award for Children’s Literature. Each year the shortlisted books provide a range of beautiful stories for kids that celebrate nature and its protection. In 2022, they launched the Karajia Award for Children’s Literature. It celebrates excellence in children’s literature by Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island authors and/or illustrators, who honour Connection to Country and tell stories exploring land, community, culture and language.
